Abstract

Cities and regions are challenged by the impacts of the pandemic. Fear and loss of freedom are now spread, creating social conflicts. The only hope is that there will be a Post-pandemic Future. What about the period during the pandemic? This paper addresses the topic of how to face the current pandemic and create inclusive, open and innovative places. Social innovation can play a key role in mitigating the effects of this situation. It satisfies human needs and develops social benefits. Nevertheless, the “social innovation places” such as urban labs, cultural centres, social enterprises have been strongly affected by the pandemic. The paper therefore aims to discuss the importance of social innovation for cities during the pandemic and how this can reduce fears and loss of hope. Considering this purpose, the research examines specific examples of social enterprises in Europe through interviews and surveys, and how they are responding to the pandemic.
