Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz was a philosopher, mathematician, historian and lawyer, as well as an engineer who invented machines. Living up to the ideals of its namesake is both a challenge and a commitment for Leibniz University Hannover. LUH views itself in his tradition - united in diversity, interdisciplinary and open-minded. Since 2006, when the university was renamed, LUH has been honouring its namesake on the occasion of Leibniz''s birthday on 1 July. Due to the corona pandemic, the event scheduled to take place in 2020 has been suspended. For this reason, the Communications and Marketing department at LUH has developed two online formats to celebrate the 374th birthday of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz.
Film series "Leibniz''s World"
Since the main university building of LUH is currently closed due to the corona pandemic, a series of six short films guided by the motto "Leibniz''s World" provides a virtual tour of the Leibniz Exhibition. The series includes numerous topics, such as "Social Media in the 17th Century - Leibniz as a Science Communicator" or the calculating machines developed by Leibniz and whether they really worked. In addition, the films explain how Leibniz and the numbers in the LUH logo are connected. Furthermore, two films cover the connection between Leibniz and the House of Welf as well as silver mining in the Upper Harz region.

Column "Gottfried in a Nutshell"
The column "Gottfried in a Nutshell" features short and entertaining facts about Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. Every month, Leibniz researcher Dr. des. Ariane Walsdorf from the Communications and Marketing department at LUH will present background information on Leibniz''s life. The first edition explains why we celebrate Leibniz''s birthday on 1 July, even though the polyglot was born on 21 June 1646 - according to the family chronicle.
