Doctoral Studies – Admission and Enrolment
Admission to complete a doctorate takes place through the relevant faculty. This is the first step, and the doctoral studies office (Promotionsbüro) is the unit responsible. Parallel to the acceptance process in the faculty, you need to register with Leibniz University Hannover’s campus management in order to enrol.
Admission or acceptance through the faculty
The admission requirements are stipulated in the doctoral regulations. In general, you need at least the written confirmation from a university professor that they are willing to serve as your supervisor.
The documents necessary for acceptance can vary from faculty to faculty. Please contact the relevant doctoral studies office for more information about this.
Until you have been officially accepted by the doctoral committee or have fulfilled the conditions set out in your conditional acceptance, you can be granted temporary acceptance. This will enable you to enrol as a doctoral student.
Enrolment through the Admissions Office
Parallel to the acceptance process in the faculty, you need to register with Leibniz University Hannover’s campus management. Once you have been accepted by the faculty, the Admissions Office can enrol you for the duration of your doctoral degree or the duration of the conditional acceptance.
Please note that there are differences in the enrolment process depending on whether you have ever studied or worked at LUH.
- If you have never studied at LUH before, please register in advance using this link: Registration – application portal
- If you are currently studying at LUH or your enrolment terminated less than six months ago, please use the LUH campus management portal and log in with your IDM login data (LUH-ID).
If you no longer have your login data (LUH-ID), please email the information desk staff at Student Advisory Services (infothek@zuv.uni-hannover.de) and include a signed scan of your identity card. Your password will be reset, and you will receive new login data.
- Former LUH students whose enrolment terminated more than six months ago will receive their former enrolment number once they have registered in our campus management portal. Please register and activate your account. Then email us at promotion.i-amt@zuv.uni-hannover.de and include a scan of your identity card and your previous enrolment number.
- If you are currently employed at LUH and have IDM login data (LUH-ID), please use your official email to contact us at promotion.i-amt@zuv.uni-hannover.de and include your LUH-ID. If you were also a student at LUH, please indicate your enrolment number as well.
Please note: Even if you have already presented your documents to the doctoral studies office and you have been admitted by the faculty, it is still necessary for you to apply via the campus management portal and to upload your documents.
