Student Assistant / Academic Assistant in the field of Python scripting and flow/transport modeling

(20 to 40 hours per month)

The Institute of Fluid Mechanics and Environmental Physics in Civil Engineering (ISU) welcomes applications for the following position starting at the earliest possible date: Student Assistant / Academic Assistant in the field of Python scripting and flow/transport modeling (20 to 40 hours per month)

The contract is initially limited to 6 months due to the ending of a research project.

Your role

Your tasks include support/cooperation with:

  • Python scripting, data analysis and plotting for simulations' pre- and postprocessing
  • Managing long calculations on linux computing clusters: checking results and restarting
  • optionally: CAD for generation of artificial pore spaces using python and FreeCAD
  • optionally: Meshing with OpenFOAM's SnappyHexMesh utility
  • optionally: literature research and Wiki-like documentation on underground hydrogen storage, software usage and modeling methods

Who are we looking for?

Prerequisite for employment is a valid enrolment at a german university. You are preferably willing to learn new methods and ideally interested in writing a subsequent thesis about flow and transport modeling or computational fluid dynamics at ISU. You would be asked to at least partly work in person at our institute and organize yourself in a way that you can work with a regular but not too frequent supervision.
