The Institute for Public Finance at Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) conducts research in public finance with a focus on empirical tax research. We examine a variety of issues relevant to society, politics and business. The institute is integrated into the economics faculty at the LUH, which offers young scientists a professional, active and stimulating international research environment.

The Institute of Public Finance welcomes applications for the following position starting September 1, 2025 or by arrangement: Research Associate in Public Economics (salary scale 13 TV-L, 75 %)

The fixed-term position is for a duration of 24 months (with the possibility of extension) and offers the possibility of a doctorate.

Your role

You are responsible for:

  • Independent research activities as part of your doctoral project
  • Participation in research projects at the institute
  • The presentation of your research results at national and international conferences

You are involved in teaching and in the administrative tasks of the institute

Who are we looking for?

The prerequisite for employment is a completed academic university degree (diploma/master's) in economics or business administration (or a related subject) or the completion of such a degree before taking up the position. Advanced knowledge of econometric methods and excellent written and spoken English skills are expected.

In addition, you have the following qualifications:
You should have a strong interest in policy-relevant topics and empirical research in the field of public economics (public finance). An in-depth interest in the field of taxes is desirable. You should also have excellent organizational, social and communication skills as well as a high degree of motivation, flexibility and initiative.
