The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science invites applications for the following position within salary scale W2 NBesO with tenure track leading to salary scale W3 NBesO (appointment according to the “Jülicher Modell”) to be appointed at the earliest possible date: University Professorship in Semantic Models in Medicine

This is a joint appointment procedure with the TIB - Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology and University Library based on the Jülich model. The position is limited to 5 years. Following a positive evaluation, the candidate will receive a tenured professorship (salary scale W3 NBesO).

The Position

As the German National Library of Science and Technology, TIB's forward-looking services ensure the infrastructural prerequisites for a high-quality supply of information and literature for research in science and industry.

The professorship is intended to cover semantic models in medicine in research and teaching. The future professor must have an excellent scientific background in computer science or bioinformatics and several of the following application areas:

  • Knowledge Representation and Scientific Knowledge Graphs
  • Semantic Research Data Management
  • Natural Language Processing of medical information
  • Human-Computer Interaction for Intelligent Science Applications
  • Scientific Data Mangement and Analysis
  • Information Retrieval in Digital Libraries
  • Efficient and Scalable Learning Methods for Big Medical Data

With the appointment of the professorship, the aim is to innovate information organization and information flows in research and especially medicine in a digital and AI-based manner in order to better solve social challenges. In cooperation with the existing research groups at the Lower Saxony Center for Artificial Intelligence and Causal Methods in Medicine (CAIMed), at the L3S research center and at the TIB, there is an outstanding environment for disciplinary and interdisciplinary cooperation.

Your Profile

An excellent research profile, active participation in teaching in computer science, commitment to academic self-administration and successful acquisition of third-party funding are expected. As part of CAIMed, active participation in projects with a medical focus (e.g. representation, organization and analysis of medical data such as time series, omics data) is required.

The professorship is also expected to collaborate with TIB Leibniz Information Center for Science and Technology within the joint-lab between TIB and L3S Research Center at LUH. If suitable and interested, there is the possibility of taking on leadership roles at the TIB in the future.

Sound knowledge of German and English is also required.
