Short Description

The supplementary programme leading to a certificate enables students to take a second teaching subject (formal qualification to teach a subject), whereby the scope (60-76 credit points) varies depending on the teaching subject chosen. Students who are simultaneously enrolled on the Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education may apply for the programme after successfully completing the second semester of the Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education. Students can also apply to take the course later (also after completing the preparatory phase of teacher training). Students are admitted to the subjects provided that places are available. Students acquire the formal qualification to teach following examination by the recruiting educational authorities.

Students can choose from the following teaching subjects: Protestant Religious Education, Catholic Religious Education, Mathematics, Physics, Politics or Sports.

Course Content

  • The programme consists of modules from the Bachelor’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education and the Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education. No practical training is required.
Course Structure

The supplementary programme leading to a certificate is worth at least 60 to 76 CP, and corresponds to full-time study lasting four semesters. Students are not required to write a final thesis, nor to complete practical training. Students wishing to teach Catholic Religious Education must provide evidence of language proficiency in specialist Latin by the end of the course. The Examination Regulations of the Supplementary Programme leading to a Certificate contains further information about this. The course sequence for the subjects that students can take is also illustrated in the Examination Regulations.

Recommended Abilities

The skills required for the supplementary programme leading to a certificate are those that are beneficial or necessary in the teaching profession: an interest in the study subject, enjoyment in working with people, good communication skills, openness to criticism, the ability to self-reflect, exceptional organisational skills and structured thinking are essential requirements for success in the teaching profession.

Career Opportunities

The supplementary programme leading to a certificate for the second teaching subject in the Teacher Training Course for Technical Education enables graduates to meet the requirement for receiving a formal qualification to teach the completed subject (formal qualification to teach a subject) from the recruiting educational authorities. Students must clarify with the competent department of the state school authorities whether the completed subject may be an examination subject in the preparatory phase of teacher training.
