Short Description
Chemistry is life! Chemistry is a dynamic, exciting subject. Chemistry is everywhere around us – from the production of new materials to understanding biological systems, from the food we eat to the medication that keeps us healthy, from the quality of our drinking water to keeping the air we breathe clean. Hannover offers students a broad, balanced and future-oriented Master’s degree programme in Chemistry – a programme that is highly research-oriented with the possibility to specialise.
Course Content
- Chemistry of natural products
- Materials chemistry
- Medicinal chemistry
- Nanochemistry
During the orientation phase, students take courses based on the traditional subject structure in addition to courses in which central topics of chemistry are considered and expanded on from different perspectives.
In the second and third semesters, students are given the opportunity to specialise in one of two areas (“Materials Chemistry and Nanochemistry” or “Medicinal and Natural Product Chemistry”) or to pursue a broader strand of study in “General Chemistry”. The structure of these two semesters is identical in each case, and students can take specialist core elective modules based on their individual interests in a modularised form.
Two periods of practical research training are included in the curriculum, the topics of which are selected by the students to tie in with their interests.
The degree programme concludes with a Master’s thesis and a presentation on a research topic chosen by the student.
Graduates of the Master’s degree programme not only acquire the scientific competence required to address issues of chemistry, but also the ability to work in a team involving other scientists such as physicists, engineers, biologists and medical scientists to tackle complex issues.
