Short Description
German Studies is offered as a teaching subject (or supplementary teaching subject) within the degree programme Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education. As a first subject, a vocational subject must be studied.
Students have the prospect of teaching the subject of German at vocational schools after completing the Master’s degree programme (and the subsequent preparatory phase of teacher training).
In the Master’s degree programme, the subject of German Studies encompasses 28 credit points. All students take a course to prepare them for their Practical Training as well as two weeks of practical training at a school in which emphasis is placed on the planning, organisation, reflection and assessment of teaching and learning processes. In the compulsory elective area, students then take a literary studies module and a linguistics module. The aim of these two modules is to expand on the specialist knowledge and skills acquired during the Bachelor’s degree programme and to enable students to select their own areas of specialisation.

- Specialisation in the area of literary studies (e.g. media – culture – knowledge)
Students can take the compulsory module FP TE Practical Training Technical Education from the 1st semester. This module comprises the Preparation for Practical Training course followed by two weeks of practical training at a school.
During the next two semesters, students take two compulsory elective modules that were not completed at the Bachelor’s stage. One module must be from the area of literary studies and the other from the field of linguistics. The literary studies module may be selected from the courses offered in modules L3 and L4. In the area of linguistics, students can choose from modules S3, S4, S5 and S7. These module include courses in areas such as language, society and media as well as German as a foreign and second language, and as the language of education.
In the 4th semester, students take the Master’s thesis module, worth 20 CP. Students on the Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education with the teaching subject German may opt to write their Master’s thesis in the subject of German Studies.
