At the beginning of April, the annual general assembly of the European university alliance EULiST (European Universities Linking Society and Technology) was held in L’Aquila, Italy. A delegation from LUH also attended, led by university president Prof. Dr. Volker Epping and the vice president for international affairs and sustainability, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Regina Nogueira, who also serves as the overall head of the EU-funded initiative.
The participants at the general assembly included the presidents of the 10 EULiST universities as well as the project management team, representatives from the individual work packages and task groups, and students. The aim was to discuss the alliance’s progress and the activities planned for the coming years.
To kick off the general assembly, the EULiST president and chair of the governing boards, Ladislav Janicek, gave a talk on European universities within the European Union and the challenges they face. Additionally, all participants were invited to an opening ceremony for the 2025 summer semester at the University of L’Aquila, where university rector Edoardo Alesse delivered a ceremonial speech.
During the three-day meeting, held in the historical building that is home to the university’s Luigi Zordan Congress Centre, the focus was on the following topics:
- Strategies for student and staff mobility within EULiST
- The establishment of a sustainable EULiST campus
- Competitiveness in MINT subjects
- A digital campus
- The establishment of a platform for internships
- Internal and external EULiST communication
- Management of European university alliances
- Challenges facing the EU
- A common European degree
In addition to the representatives from the various EULiST committees, the EULiST Student Board also met. The students have the opportunity to contribute actively to all alliance matters and to acquire international experience.
At LUH, students and employees are invited to get involved in the EULiST alliance. They can contribute to one of the five work packages, take part in mobility programmes at the partner universities, or help organise alliance-wide events such as summer schools, symposia and exhibitions.
