Professor for Water- and Wastewater Biology is the successor to Prof. Dr. Christina von Haaren of the Institute of Environmental Planning.

On 1 September 2024, Prof. Dr. Regina Nogueira will join the Presidential Board of Leibniz University Hannover, assuming the position of Vice President for International Affairs and Sustainability. The previous Vice President – Prof. Dr. Christina von Haaren – will be stepping down to retire.

Professor Regina Nogueira of the Institute of Urban Water Management and Waste Technology has been a professor at Leibniz University Hannover since 2012. Prior to this, the Portuguese-born professor held a junior professorship at the University of Minho (Braga, Portugal). In 2002, she completed her doctorate there and at the Technical University of Munich. Her key research areas include water quality management, risk assessment with a focus on viruses and multi-resistant bacteria, and recovery of resources from wastewater.

Her predecessor – Professor Christina von Haaren – has held the office since 2019, in which time she has made a great contribution to LUH, initiating and implementing a plethora of projects. EULiST – the alliance of European universities, to name just one of her achievements, is largely attributable to her endeavours. The Presidential Board would like to thank Christina von Haaren for her exceptional work during her term in office and warmly welcomes Professor Regina Nogueira to her new role.
