Grantee institutions will receive funding to grant fully-funded fellowships to successfully nominated threatened scientists and scholars for research stays in Germany of initially up to 24 months. The host institution will also receive a lump sum intended to offset expenses for the support of Philipp Schwartz fellows in integrating at the institution and in re-starting their careers. An extension of up to 12 months can be granted in the framework of a co-financing model.
The deadline for nominations is 29 February 2020.
The Philipp Schwartz Initiative particularly wishes to encourage academics and higher education institutions across Germany that are interested in supporting at-risk scholars but have not yet done so to consider an application, even if they are not yet in touch with a suitable candidate. Scholars across academic disciplines continue to be exposed to persecution and displacement in numerous regions of the world. Many of these scholars are already supported by the Scholars at Risk Network, the IIE Scholar Rescue Fund, and the Council for At-Risk Academics. These organizations may be able to assist your institution in identifying a candidate for whom nomination in the Philipp Schwartz Initiative might be a pivotal relief.
