In 2008 and 2009, a new research building was constructed on the campus of Leibniz University Hannover at Schneiderberg 39. The keys to the new Laboratory of Nano and Quantum Engineering (LNQE) were handed over in November 2009, after almost two years of construction.
The LNQE is a unique centre for interdisciplinary nanotechnology research in Germany.
Interdisciplinary projects bring together researchers from different disciplines.
In addition to research, particularly in the fields of nanomaterials, mechanics/magnetics, nanoelectronics, optics and quantum systems, the LNQE's tasks include training and promoting young talent in these fields. Nine laser, chemistry and measuring laboratories (435 square metres in total), a cleanroom with very low levels of airborne dust particles (409 square metres) as well as workspaces for more than 40 people (509 square metres) provide excellent conditions for researchers. The LNQE building was funded by the state of Lower Saxony and the federal government.
