Many thanks to all participants, speakers, workshop leaders and helpers who made it possible for the first "Open Science Festival" to take place in Germany!
The 150 participants on site and up to 55 viewers in the livestream showed us how much interest there is in an exchange on Open Science.
The recordings of the keynote and the panels "Open Science- just science done right" and "Who owns Science?" can be found on the AV-Portal of TIB - Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology.
Additional materials are published on Zenodo.
- exchange ideas and insights on open science practices with (inter)-national experts
- a place to connect
- hands-on workshops
- a market place with information on local and international initiatives and services
Organization of the Festival:
- Where? Welfenschloss of the Leibniz University Hannover
- Who? Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) and Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology (TIB) are organizing the Festival
Roots of the Festival:
- Our neighbours in the Netherlands are a role model regarding their implementation of open science practices and we were inspired by their Open Science Festival (opensciencefestival.nl) and their slogan

Keynote: Transition to Open Science - Reform of Recognition and Rewards
Frank Miedema is Vice Rector for Research at Utrecht University and chair of the Utrecht University Open Science Program. He is one of the initiators in 2013 of Science in Transition who believe that the academic incentive and reward system is in need of fundamental reform. Next to Science for Science (articles in ‘high-impact’ journals), the impact on society must be valued more and societal stakeholders should be involved more integrally in the production of knowledge.
His new book titled ‘Open Science, the very idea’, that describes recent developments in science from a historical, sociological, philosophical perspective and from a personal perspective was recently published (Open Access) by Springer Nature.
