Junior Research Groups and Grant Recipients in the Heisenberg Programme

Junior research groups offer outstandingly qualified early career researchers the opportunity to implement their own research project and qualify for a professorship or other leadership positions by independently leading a junior research group. Those funded through the Heisenberg Programme already fulfil all the requirements for appointment to a long-term professorship. The aim is to enable these researchers to prepare themselves for a position of scientific leadership and to further enhance their scientific reputation. All recipients are competitively selected with their research projects and an external peer-review evaluation takes place in all cases. Leibniz University Hannover recognises this group of individuals as one with high potential and supports and promotes them with numerous advisory and qualification measures.

In addition, the junior research group leaders at Leibniz University Hannover are entitled to act as first reviewers in doctoral procedures for their own staff. In order to attract and retain exceptional junior research group leaders funded by research programmes, a fast-track-to-tenure option is available when a junior research group is recruited.
