University Professorship (m/f/d) in Databases and Information Systems

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science invites applications for the following position of Salary Scale W3 NBesO starting at the earliest possible date: University Professorship (m/f/d) in Databases and Information Systems

The Position

We are looking for a person with outstanding international academic credentials who can competently represent the subject with a focus on current areas in research and teaching in the spectrum between theory and systems.

The focus can be on one of the following research areas, among others:

  • Massively parallel and distributed databases, in-memory databases or new storage technologies,
  • Data integration and data analysis for very large and distributed data sets,
  • Connection of databases and AI (e.g. data-centric ML),
  • Key-value stores, graph databases and other non-relational databases
  • Scalable data engineering, data stream or sensor data management.

Your Profile

Outstanding research achievements and third-party funding experience are required. Experience in teaching courses on basic and advanced topics, with designated courses also in English.

The professorship complements the Faculty's research focus areas, with strong synergies for the focus application areas "Digital Society", "Biomedical Engineering" and "Energy". You will find excellent opportunities for collaborations with the university's institutes, the L3S and NIFE research center, including in the fields of AI, knowledge-based systems, machine learning, systems engineering, theoretical computer science, human-machine interaction, software engineering, natural language processing and information retrieval.

In addition to active collaboration with colleagues in the faculty, the candidate is expected to participate in compulsory teaching in the Bachelor's program (introductory lecture “Grundlagen der Datenbanksysteme”).
