Short Description

Electrical engineering is offered as a vocational subject area within the Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education for Single-subject Bachelor’s Graduates (LBS-Sprint). In addition, students are required to study a second subject or teaching subject.

During their studies, students acquire the didactic skills in the vocational field of electrical engineering, which they need as the necessary basis for working as a teacher at a vocational school.

This initially includes the design of teaching materials and testing the use of these materials. They then increase their subject-didactic skills by planning, implementing and evaluating a teaching unit at a vocational school with subject-didactic support. The information technology skills from the bachelor's degree are taken up and deepened in class with further concepts (object-oriented programming, graphical programming).

Course Content

  • Didactics of the professional field of Electrical Engineering
Course Structure

The degree programme is divided into teaching methodology in the vocational subject area, worth 23 credit points, the teaching subject, worth 60 credit points, and Vocational and Business Education, worth 22 credit points. The degree programme concludes with a written Master’s thesis, worth 15 credit points. The Master's thesis can be written in the vocational subject area or in vocational and business education.

In addition, students must prove that they have met the condition of completing 8 credit points each in the vocational subject area and in Vocational and Business Education, provided that the previously completed bachelor's degree was a purely technical study and no knowledge of the didactics of the vocational subject and/or vocational and business education is verifiable.

The following applies to mechanical engineering and electrical engineering:
In accordance with Annex 5 of the Ordinance on Master’s Degrees for Teacher Training in Lower Saxony (Nds. MasterVO-Lehr), students without a relevant vocational qualification must instead complete 52 weeks of practical training before registering their Master’s thesis.

The following applies to nursing:
Relevant professional training must be proven when applying.

Recommended Abilities

In addition to the skills that are necessary for all teaching activities (e.g. interest in imparting knowledge, fun in teaching, resilience, patience, empathy, etc.), in the field of electrical engineering, good imagination and abstraction skills, an interest in mathematical and technical problems and the ability to think logically are crucial.

Career Opportunities
  • Employment as a teacher in vocational schools or other schools at upper secondary level,
  • employment in the field of vocational education research,
  • as a vocational instructor in in-company training, in chambers, associations or in the teaching materials industry
