Short Description

Site Engineering is offered as a vocational subject within the degree programme Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education. In addition, a second teaching subject must be studied.

The programme builds on the bachelor’s degree in technical education. Advanced subject-specific courses in production technology, construction and building processes cater primarily for the construction industry in the field of site engineering.

Teaching methodology focuses primarily on the different types of vocational schools and colleges offering first vocational training. A central feature of the teaching methodology part of the course is the analysis of work processes and the subject-specific knowledge required for site engineering. This in turn enables students to develop school curricula and devise teaching sequences for colleges teaching site engineering.

Site Engineering makes up 42 credit points of the master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education (120 CP).

Course Structure

The professional specialisation in site engineering can be divided essentially into two areas:

1. Work-related and subject-specific courses for the professional specialisation in site engineering

Central modules in this area are modules on production methods and building construction.

2. Subject-specific teaching methodology for the professional specialisation in site engineering

The emphasis in the module “Teaching Methodology 2” is on the analysis of training regulations and operational processes, as well as on devising school curricula; in the module “Teaching Methodology 3” students design learning units based on this. The module “Internship” enables students to test this in lessons and to work on discovery and research projects in the vocational schools.

Apart from enjoying work with people, prospective students should have a broad interest in the fields of professional activity in the building trade.

Career Opportunities

Successful completion of the consecutive master’s degree in technical education is a requirement for embarking on teaching practice (Referendariat) at vocational schools. Outside of school, fields of professional activity can be found in vocational training in trade associations and chambers of commerce. By studying for a doctorate, graduates can gain a further scientific qualification.
