Short Description
Mathematics is offered as a teaching subject (or supplementary teaching subject) within the degree programme Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education. As a first subject, a vocational subject must be studied.
Students on the Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education develop and expand on the skills gained in the Bachelor’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education. In addition to learning content in the vocational subject area and the teaching subject, students focus on teaching skills to a greater extent than at the Bachelor’s stage. Mathematics as a teaching subject now involves new content, with students taking lectures and problem classes in numerical mathematics and geometry for schools. The mathematical content is based on the requirements of the Federal State of Lower Saxony.

The Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education focuses on teaching methodology, especially enabling students to approach school practice by completing practical training. In the course of their practical training, supported by teaching staff, students try out and practice teaching at a school. In the subject discipline of Mathematics, students gain skills in numerical analysis, geometry and stochastics.
The degree programme concludes with the Master’s thesis module. The Master’s thesis should demonstrate the candidate’s ability to independently tackle a problem from the chosen vocational subject area or the chosen teaching subject or Education Sciences and Vocational Education based on scientific methods within the set time. Four months are set aside for writing the Master’s thesis.

The Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education is the requirement for entry to the preparatory phase of teacher training at the relevant type of school. Irrespective of the core area of activity in technical education, however, graduates may also find employment in areas where analytical skills are required together with the ability to structure and teach content: examples include in-house training departments or work involving technical communication.
