Short Description

Physics is offered as a teaching subject (or supplementary teaching subject) within the degree programme Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education. As a first subject, a vocational subject must be studied.

The main aim of this consecutive degree programme is to enable graduates, after completion of the preparatory phase of teacher training, to embark on a successful career in technical education.

For this reason, students on the Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education with the teaching subject of Physics develop and expand on the skills gained at the Bachelor’s stage. In this connection, students expand on content in the vocational subject area and the teaching subject, as well as spending much more time focusing on teaching skills than at the Bachelor’s stage.

During practical training, students gain their first experience teaching mathematics.

Course Content

  • Experiments and experimentation in physics lessons
  • Molecules, nuclei, particles, solid bodies
  • Practical training at a school
Course Structure

The Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education focuses on teaching methodology, especially enabling students to approach school practice by completing practical training. In the course of their practical training, supported by teaching staff, students try out and practice teaching at a school. In the subject discipline of Physics, students expand on their skills in experimental physics. To this end, they choose two courses from a selection of compulsory elective modules.

The degree programme concludes with the Master’s thesis module. The Master’s thesis should demonstrate the candidate’s ability to independently tackle a problem from the chosen vocational subject area or the chosen teaching subject or Education Sciences and Vocational Education based on scientific methods within the set time. Four months are set aside for writing the Master’s thesis.

Career Opportunities

The Master’s Teacher Training Course for Technical Education is the requirement for entry to the preparatory phase of teacher training at the relevant type of school. Irrespective of the core area of activity in technical education, however, graduates may also find employment in areas where analytical skills are required together with the ability to structure and teach content: examples include in-house training departments or work involving technical communication.
