Short Description

The study of political science imparts knowledge of political systems, political processes, political content and the theoretical and analytical relationships of political organisations in modern societies. At Leibniz University Hannover, the subject is offered in the nationally and internationally recommended depth, i.e. the areas of political theory and history of ideas, comparative government, international relations and political science methods are represented. The programme also includes other areas from the Institute of Political Science: political sociology, policy areas and political administration.

Course Structure

The course programme is divided into an introductory module, five basic modules and a module on political science statistics. Two specialisations are then explored in more depth, with one module of the student's choice in each. The course is supplemented by elective modules from other subjects (including law, economics, history, sociology). Internships and courses in key qualifications for future professional fields complete the programme.

Application Deadlines

1 June – 15 July of the year for the winter semester

First-year students (application for the 1st semester) can only apply for the winter semester.
Students resuming their studies and transfer students (application for a higher semester) can also apply for the summer semester (1 December - 15 January).
Requirements for applications from non-EU countries:
- VPD from uni-assist OR a passed assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung) of a preparatory foundation course (Studienkolleg)
- Applications for the Studienkolleg must be submitted by 15 July.
