Occupational Health and Safety

The Occupational Health and Safety unit is responsible for ensuring that staff members do not become ill or sustain injuries as a result of their work activities. 

 

Here is an overview of the services provided by the occupational health and safety unit:

  • Advising and support in the completion of risk assessments
  • Workplace visits and individual advising
  • Measurement of stressors and hazards in the workplace (e.g. noise, lighting)
  • Provision of training sessions (including training of fire safety assistants, fire extinguisher practice)
  • Preventative occupational health exams, vaccination consultations for business trips
  • Accident reviews
  • Coordination of first-aid training for department safety officers, laser safety officers, fire safety assistants, etc.
  • Approvals (e.g. radiation protection, genetic engineering)
  • Testing of ladders and steps
