The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for the following position of Salary Scale W3 NBesO starting as soon as possible: University Professorship (m/f/d) in Machine Elements, Design and Tribology

The Position

The professorship is responsible for the management of the Institute of Machine Design and Tribology at Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH). The institute is one of twenty institutes in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at LUH, located at the newly opened Mechanical Engineering Campus Garbsen. The core areas of research so far are experimental and numerical methods of macro- and microtribology as well as roller bearing, slide bearing and sealing technology. The synthesis of new technical solutions in the sense of innovations is of particular importance. Core areas are to be expanded with reference to tribology to include the key aspects of sustainability, artificial intelligence and medical technology. In teaching, the professorship is responsible for the areas of tribology, machine elements, engineering design and product design.

The tasks include:

  • Developing and shaping research in the subject concerned
  • Participation in and initiation of cooperative research projects
  • Scientific training of students, doctoral candidates and postdocs
  • Participation in scientific self-administration

Your Profile

To fulfill the above-mentioned tasks, the following is expected:

  • Above-average doctorate on a topic relevant to the subject concerned
  • Ability to teach courses in German and English
  • Professional relevance in tribology proven by publications
  • Management/leadership experience

Furthermore desirable:

  • Several years of experience in scientific work in a subject area relevant to tribology field at a university or in a company
  • Proof of professional breadth and innovative ability in tribology
  • Experience in the supervision of junior scientists
  • Experience in acquiring third-party funding and/or patent applications
