Student/research assistant (m/f/d) in the field Health and Development Economics

(20 hours/month)

The Institute of Health Economics (IHE) belongs to the Faculty of Economics. It is responsible for research and teaching in the field of health and development economics and is headed by Prof. Dr. Annika Herr.

The Institute of Health Economics is offering the following position that is to be filled by 01 September 2024: Student/research assistant (m/f/d) in the field Health and Development Economics (20 hours/month)

The position is limited to 6 months. Ideally, you are willing to work approximately 5 hours per week (i.e. 20h per month). The number of hours can be arranged individually.

Your role

The student/research assistant will primarily support third-party funded research projects of a team of researchers from Leibniz University Hannover, the University of Bonn and the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS). The relevant project focusses on the evaluation of the introduction of a child marriage ban in Sub-Saharan Africa. The main tasks encompass:

  • Supporting research projects, in particular on the introduction of a child-marriage ban in Ethiopia
  • Support in researching and preparing and processing geodata
  • Acquisition and management of literature and other context-specific information
  • Administrative and organizational support for the research projects as well as for general activities of the Institute of Health Economics, if required

Who are we looking for?

This call is open to students of all disciplines with an interest in economics and health/development economics. A strong background in economics is desirable. We offer the possibility to work remotely. Laptop or PC must be organized independently in this case. The successful candidate must be enrolled at a German higher education institution, ideally in a degree programme relevant to the position.

In addition, we are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Interest in research and scientific work as well as in health and development economics issues
  • At least good knowledge of English
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (e.g. Excel)
  • Experience working with data using one of the common statistical programs (e.g. Stata, R or Python)
  • Experience working with geodata is desirable 
  • A responsible and independent way of working
  • A completed bachelor's degree is an advantage, but not required
