Research assistant (m/f/d) in the field of Immunological Research/Biotechnology

(salary scale 13 TV-L, 67 %)

The Institute of Technical Chemistry (TCI) conducts biotechnological research in all its facets. Currently, around 100 academic staff - including Bachelor's and Master's students and (post)doctoral students - are involved in a large number of interdisciplinary and cross-sector research projects as well as collaborations with industrial partners.

The following position is to be filled at the TCI as soon as possible: Research assistant (m/f/d) in the field of Immunological Research/Biotechnology (salary scale 13 TV-L, 67 %)

The position is limited to 36 months and is part of a joint project with Hannover Medical School, Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts and two biotechnology companies in Lower Saxony entitled "HLA streptamers to improve diagnostics and individualised T cell therapy for polyomavirus infection after transplantation". The aim is to develop a methodology for T cell engineering in kidney transplant patients with polyomavirus nephropathy, which can lead to transplant failure. Prof. Dr Blume's working group (head of the consortium) is based at the TCI, which has a fully equipped cell culture laboratory at the NIFE (Lower Saxony Centre for Biomedical Engineering, Implant Research and Development) with access to various core facilities such as flow cytometry.

Your position at a glance

Your research task includes the development of a T-cell immunity test based on HLA streptamers for blood cells from healthy blood donors from the Institute of Transfusion Medicine and Transplantation Engineering at the MHH following (inapparent) polyomavirus nephropathy. These will later also be used in blood cells from immunocompromised patients at the Department of Nephrology at the MHH. You will be responsible for the development of a protocol for the isolation of virus-specific T cells. Furthermore, you will be the contact person for a collaboration with the University of Bielefeld, where a TCR scan will be performed with the HLA streptamers and a TCR library will be created. Your work will be based on the preliminary work of the Blume group in the field of T-cell cultivation, which will be supervised by an experienced member of staff. The possibility of a doctorate is given.
