The Appointment Process
Leibniz University sees appointing new professors as one of its most important tasks and an effective instrument for profile development. It was the first institute of higher education in Lower Saxony to be granted the right to appoint professors by the Ministry, initially for a limited period of time. The focus of new professorships is based on the university’s organisational and development planning and the faculties’ objectives.
Appointment processes are geared to selecting the best candidates, increasing international competitiveness, and meeting the statutory equal-opportunity requirements. LUH uses active recruitment as an important instrument here. It is anchored in the appointment regulations and is a regular part of every appointment process.
Quality management to international standards guarantees that the appointment process is transparent, objective and conducted properly in terms of the formalities and legal aspects. Internal university appointment regulations govern the implementation of the procedure. The Department for Appointment Matters provides support and advice.
Appointment Process Organisation
Since 2018, Leibniz University Hannover has managed appointment processes via a digital appointment portal, which is intended to make the application process more efficient for applicants as well as for appointment committees and faculty staff.
