Our Focus
LUH encourages competence-oriented approaches in teaching. Constructive Alignment is a basic didactic principle for teaching design, while Challenge-Based Learning is a specific teaching approach that fosters project-oriented content derived from real societal challenges.

Constructive Alignment: Teaching and assessment in harmony
The "Constructive Alignment" concept provides for the harmonisation of teaching and learning objectives, teaching and learning activities and assessment types. The basis for this are transparent teaching objectives, which point the way for the design of teaching and thus for the initiation of students' learning activities as well as for the development of examination requirements and the forms of re-registration.
The following steps should be considered when planning a competence-oriented course:
- Formulate competence-oriented learning objectives
- Determine the students' learning activities
- Plan performance assessment
- Check the fit between learning objectives, learning activities and assessment types (alignment) and make any necessary modifications

Challenge-Based Learning: Project-orientated teaching
Challenge-Based Learning allows students to develop practical solutions to real social challenges as part of courses. The didactic teaching approach thus combines scientific questions and methods with project and team work, promotes interdisciplinary perspectives and competencies and actively involves students with their existing skills and experience.
Further information on the design and possibilities of Challenge-Based Learning at LUH will follow shortly.
