Postdocs and PhD Holders

When you apply for a professorship, you will need to demonstrate your eligibility for the position. This can be done in various ways. What is considered suitable depends on the specific academic culture. In Germany, the classic means of attaining and demonstrating eligibility is to complete a habilitation – a postdoctoral thesis – in the relevant faculty. Alternatively, you can demonstrate achievements that are equivalent to a habilitation – for example, independent leadership of a working group.

In addition to research, teaching, management and leadership are central duties associated with a professorship.
